Japanese Afternoon

4:35 – 5:00 Fumiko Tachibana
Reflections on the last 5 years and the future with students
and their cultural exploration

1)Introduction of the Japanese faculty at Palomar College.
2)The nature of the trip. Brief introduction of the previous trips.
3)Why I started this trip with students in 2000.
4)My wish conducting this trip.

Let them experience different culture in a very safe environment with their classmates or friends,
while I experience my culture throuth my student’s eyes. It is a new discovery, new findings, sometimes, mind-opening interpretation of what I used to know.

I once learned flower arrangement from a friend from America. He is a master of the Japanese art in Japan. Flower arrangement in English by Joe Lapenta

You influence and motivate others as much as you are influenced by others. "They" people altered many Japanese style toilets to western style with pikoretto.

5)Our common goal:

People get together when joy & happiness exists, so Let us create the environment !!

1) Enrichment: It can happen to everyone, teacher or students, no matter who you are.

2) Fun Look at Scot, Sharie, Lorenzo, Monica, David, Heinrich, Karen, David and Sharie

3) Further motivate the students: Many (not all but many) students motivate themselves to further study Japanese or go beyond that. Teacher motivates herself to explore her own culture and network with people who can be “connected” with us. "Connected" is oneness even though we are different.

We often times motivate them to improve their life style.

Many went to Japan “after” experiencing the trip to Japan or plan to go to Japan and study or work. (there are many repeaters. Sharie repeated three times. Duane twice, Sarah twice, studied in Japan, Stephany studied in Japan, Scot went to Gunma University in September 2004, Lauren worked in Japan, etc.) In order to travel, you need fund too. I promise to do a better job for the following year, and start doing search, and go everywhere on the internet.

6) Next year
